Please help this woman if you can. Rachel and William Crowder and her family, and Charles Barnes and his family (this is Rachel's father) and the Marlows or Marlowe [family]. George W. Marlow was married to Melissa/Melinda Hart, the sole survivor of the Pea River Massacre. She and her son were mentioned in the History of Walton County written by John McKinnon.
I am looking for a book about the Pea River Massacre written by Marion Brunson. I think it was called Reflections of Pea River. Also what Railroad work would have been done around 1914-1916 in Walton County? This is when my great grandfather E.D.(Jackson Marlow) worked on the railroad and was killed.
Also I was told by my cousin that our great grandmother Rachel Crowder's branding iron is on display at someones home but we have no idea who. I would love to see it at least once. Thank you for all your help. Diane HD#51

The following reply about the branding iron is from Barbara McClellan Moore, the great-great-granddaughter of Rachel: When Rachel died, Ella Christian Crowder (known as Miss Eller) took it [the branding iron] to her home along with the broad ax. Ella married Charles Van Buren McClellan. When Ella died, her daughter Bell McClellan took it to her home. Bell was married to Calvin Wilkins. When Bell and Calvin died, no one wanted it but Randall, so he now has it. I was staying with him while I did research almost 4 years ago and I made pictures of it and drew sketches and measured it. That way we could always know what size it was, etc. Randall has really gone down in health and now lives with a son. He says the branding iron will never leave his family.
