From another website visitor: “One thing I have always wondered about the two historical markers on McKinnon Bridge Rd. -- Which is the authentic site of McClendon's homestead?”
The surname is often spelled McLendon, including on the county's website, but early land and census records have it as McClendon.

Bruce Cosson has determined from original land deeds that Neil McLennan did not own land on McKinnon Bridge Road. His son Lacklin McLennan had a deed recorded in 1929 at 1 North, 18 West, Section 4. A deed was recorded for Neil McLennan at 2 North, 17 West, Section 10, in 1834, the year Neil McLennan moved to Texas.
Note: I have used the name McLennan because that is how the county in Texas is spelled that is named for Neil McLennan.
