A new member of the Walton County Heritage Association is interested in the history of the two-story brick building on 10th Street between Baldwin and Nelson Avenues in DeFuniak Springs. We have been told that the building once housed the telephone operator for the city and served as an annex to the original Hotel DeFuniak, which was on Baldwin Avenue. Later uses were reportedly as a funeral home and government office.
If you have any information to add, please let me know.

We have been told that the building housed the Welfare Office before that agency was moved to another building on Hwy. 90. Before its use as the Welfare Office, a man named Walter Mathews reportedly sold a sort of tonic from that building.
