A website visitor needs help: . . . locating a newspaper obituary dated very late 1901 or very early 1902. The death certificate is dated January 18, 1902. The death occurred in Freeport, Florida, and the physician reporting was Dr. D. H. Simmons. My great-grandmother was from Bonifay, and I have found one child and the husband, in different cemeteries------but not her, yet. The name is Sallie Clotilday Davis Stokes. Born in Alabama in 1879, lived in Bonifay since a child, and ( may have ) married John Dulas Stokes around 1900. Two sons by Stokes; one, Dewy, died with her in a fire in Freeport. The child is buried in New Effort Cemetery. Her husband is said to be D. Stokes in Magnolia Cemetery [DeFuniak Springs]. Diane HD#24

Greetings Diane,
My question would be if by chance you have a brother named Ben? My gr grandmother was Sallie Clotilday Davis Stokes as well. I have gathered quite a bit of information about R.D. Stokes. He was married prior to our ggmother. His first wife was Laura Hickman. He had 4 children with her in which the last, Amanda Margaret Stokes was born 07/02/1899 and Dewey, was born Oct 1899. After Sallie passed, He married Mary Jane Elizabeth Boone Brown. I did see where there is supposed to be a Baker block Musuem in Walton County Florida that supposedly has 1902 newspapers. I was just googling for info when I found your inquiry. I would love to share my research thus far. Angie
