A local reporter is trying to gather information and asked for our help. Please reply ASAP if you can add any information. She is writing an article about the Santa Rosa Beach Community Church in south Walton County. She was told that the Church began when a Baptist, a Catholic and (perhaps) a Methodist church were destroyed by a hurricane in 1947. I found some information online about a 1947 hurricane – see hubpages.com/hub/1947-Fort-Lauderdale-Hurricane – but it doesn’t appear from the tracking map that it came close enough to Walton County to cause that level of damage. Does anyone remember that hurricane? Was there perhaps another one that year? Can anyone confirm that a hurricane wiped out three churches in 1947, leading to the formation of Santa Rosa Beach Community Church? If so, which churches were they? Diane HD#31
