The owners of MASH Medical, the current occupants of the old Gulf Station at the north corner of Hwy. 90 and 8th Street in DeFuniak Springs, would like to know more about the history of the building. I have been told that the gas station, which was built in the 1930s, belonged to Rubye Burton and was managed by Andy Anderson. Our History Detectives ( www.waltoncountyheritage.org/detectives.htm) provided the following information: - Cas “Little Cas” Campbell was a mechanic at the gas station for a long time. Rubye [Burton] had a three-story house around the lake yard.
- The addition, where MASH is, was added in the 50's and was an appliance store. The store was managed (possibly owned) by Bob Kirby. Bob's brother, I believe, is Tom Kirby who still resides in DeFuniak Springs.
Please post any other information you may have. Thanks to all! Diane HD#2

Information from a History Detective: The quickest and most reliable method to check the ownership of a property is to do a title check in the Clerk's office. Often a title company has checked the title when title transferred. For a small fee the records of the title company could be purchased.

From a History Detective: James Lee "Jim" Lindsey was the station attendant in the mid-forties. At the time he and his family lived upstairs over the City jail in the building adjacent to the station. For further information you could contact his son James Albert Lindsey or his widow Margaret Lindsey, both of whom live in the Indian Creek community.
