From a website visitor: I would like to find out the history behind the naming of North and South McGarigle Road, Defuniak Springs. The name "McGarigle" is not a common one and I am curious about what the background may be. My maiden name was McGarigle and I do know that my great-grandfather was Michael McGarigle, born in Ireland about 1816 and emigrating to England. Thank you for any help you might give me. McGarigle Road is near the DeFuniak Springs Municipal Airport. If you know who it was named for, please post the information. Diane HD#66

We received an answer: McGarigle roads North and South are named after William (Bill) Frederick McGarigle, Jr. He owned about 40 acres at the ends of the two roads. He has sold some of it but, still owns around 10 acres. His paternal grandparents, Daniel and Barbara McGarigle, came to America from Scotland and settled in the Nashville, Tennessee, area. Thank you to our History Detective for solving this mystery!
