I received the following query from a website visitor. Please reply to this post if you can provide him with information.
I hope you can help me. I am trying to determine if this was a house that was owned by my mother's family during the period that would include 1940 - 1960 (give or take a few years). The family name is WICKERSHAM and the house they owned on Grayton Beach looks very similar to the pictures I see of Washaway House, except they called it "Wickhaven." Any information you can give me either on Washaway House or on property owned by the WICKERSHAMs at that time would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I just read an article from 1992 that states that Wash-a-Way and Wickhaven are the same. It was built by the Walton Land and Timber Company and was owned by Messrs. Thorpe and McConnell of DeFuniak Springs. It is the oldest house still standing in Grayton Beach and was probably built in the 1890s. The house was renovated in the 1930s by Mr. Wickersham of DeFuniak Springs, and he renamed it Wickhaven. At the time of the article, the Florence family owned the house.
